Data sovereignty as competitive advantage - hadn't framed it that way but it's accurate. The emotional difference between AI meeting your repo where it lives vs. feeding a web app is real. I've been running Claude Code for two months and the biggest shift wasn't capability, it was trust. When you can see every file it reads and approve changes before apply, you stop treating it as a black box.

That transparency changes the workflow. The cost optimization layer on top is where it gets really interesting: https://thoughts.jock.pl/p/claude-model-optimization-opus-haiku-ai-agent-costs-2026

This is the right instinct. OpenCode pushes the independence angle further — same terminal-native agent workflow but provider-agnostic from the ground up. 75+ providers including Ollama for local models, so you're genuinely not locked to any single vendor. I covered the full setup end-to-end here: https://reading.sh/the-definitive-guide-to-opencode-from-first-install-to-production-workflows-aae1e95855fb
