Would you rather build a 4x or 8x RTX 3090 local AI server for maximum VRAM, or keep things simpler with a smaller workstation that is easier to cool, power, and maintain?

How the hell would you ever fit 4x 3090 FE in any of the recommended cases? That simply doesn't fit. A card takes up minimum 3 PCIE slots.

Good point, Martijn. The guide already stated that cards bigger than dual-slot size 3090s would be problematic or require workarounds, but since most 3090s indeed take up more than 2 PCIE slots, including the Founders Edition, the article has been updated to be more clear about this.

I'd love to learn any recommendations for a (rack) case that actually fits 4 3 slot 3090's, ideally with a slot in between. It has to be with risers as no motherboard would fit that otherwise. But I'm looking and the only thing Im landing on is mining rigs... Which I do not want.

We ended up doing a separate build guide on this because most RTX 3090 cards indeed take up more than 2 slots and you were completely correct that using risers is the way to go. Building your own frame beats everything else, price-wise: https://www.popularai.org/p/4x-rtx-3090-ai-server-triple-slot-gpus
